"Information on The Swags"

Monitor Staff Reports

TOOL-Alternative rock and roll is coming to Tool with a live concert from an up and
coming band out of Fort Worth. An added feature is autograph signing with the “Dina
Garcia” character from Disney’s Shake It Up hit television dance series, played by Plano
resident Ainsley Bailey.
The SWAGS, a group gaining notoriety at fundraisers and special events performing
obscure music from popular music groups, like The Beatles, Creedence Clearwater
Revival, Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Bruce Springsteen and Tom Petty, are
joining with the Log Cabin Swingers to revitalize interest in dance. Part of their
popularity with audiences is the way the band engages the audience by inviting audience
members to join them in a number of their song with singing and dancing.
A dance concert fundraiser is set for 2-5 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 22 at Promenade Hall in
Tool. The featured performers are related to a Log Cabin Swingers member and will
perform in an effort to build the dance club’s membership in the Cedar Creek Lake area.
“We’ve chosen songs with a retro sound and a positive message you can dance to,” guitar
player Peter Gargiulo told The Monitor. The SWAGS also perform some of their original
music, as well as songs from a newer generation, such as “Good To Be Is…” by
Backyard Fire Tire.
Though playing as a group for only a little more than a year, The Swags were recently
listed as 46 on the rock chart for Fort Worth.
Made up of an active group of professionals ages 40-50, the five-member band offers a
combination of alternative country and rock-n-roll that’s been dubbed “rock-try.”
When he’s not playing guitar and songwriting, Gargiulo is an executive with JHT
Pharmaceuticals, joining him as songwriters in the group are rhythm guitar player and
lead vocalist Warren Cook, who is an advertising executive with Jamison Advertising
Group and lead guitarist/background vocals Mike Terry, a Lockheed-Martin executive.
Drummer Steve Pierce handles traffic for BNSF railroad, and bass player/background
vocals Curt Rode is an English professor with Texas Christian University.
Video clips of their performances may be viewed at reverbnation.com.
Actress Ainsley Bailey has appeared in six episodes of the popular dance show Shake It
Up, and comes from the Disney film set to support the fundraiser. Bailey was recognized
while attending a Malakoff Football game this past season, and saw the Jan. 22, dance
concert as an opportunity to meet with fans of the show and pass out signed photographs.
Concert organizer Cedar Creek Lake resident Clifton Peach hopes her attendance will
attract young people and their families to an afternoon of music, dance and fun.
“We’re also going to have a few numbers or “tips” that will introduce people to the fun of
square dancing,” Peach said. “There will be something for everyone.”
Tickets are on sale at the door for $5. Ample parking is also available at Promenade Hall,
located on State Highway 274 in Tool. As always, Promenade Hall is a smoke-free
environment and non-alcoholic refreshments and snacks will be provided.
